Communication Skills

Say what you mean.

Listen non-defensively.

Avoid pitfalls that undermine communication.

I teach clients to speak in unarguable truths about their feelings, and to say what they mean to say. We focus on listening with compassion, validating what others are saying, and understanding others’ perspectives. When we can understand what’s being said without listening defensively, and respond by validating, the conversation becomes productive. When we ask open-ended questions, e.g, those with “How?” or “What?” from a place of curiosity and concern, we can explore common ground and collaboration.
