I teach clients to speak in unarguable truths about their feelings, and to say what they mean to say. We focus on listening with compassion, validating what others are saying, and understanding others’ perspectives. When we can understand what’s being said without listening defensively, and respond by validating, the conversation becomes productive.
I believe the most important ingredient for successful counseling is a comfortable, trusting relationship, and that an authentic emotional connection is a fundamental human need.
Counseling offers a place to create and nurture a relationship with healthy boundaries.
